In the drive to extend fluid life, the focus has always been on the fight against microbial attack, because the primary cause of premature fluid failure is degradation by bacteria or fungi.  Tramp oil (which is predominantly oil from machine slideways) is a major cause of this degradation, as it is an ideal source of nutrients for the microbial population in cutting fluids. While suppliers go to great lengths to protect the cutting fluid itself from attack, little or no attention has been given to slideway oil.  However, ROCOL Lubricants has now tackled the tramp oil problem head on.

The radical approach of the ROCOL TRI-Logic system is to regard the lubrication of the machining process as one inter-dependant cycle.  Rather than a piecemeal approach, the products in the TRI-Logic system combine to provide a truly innovative solution to sump-life problems.

The foundation stone of ROCOL’s revolutionary new TRI-Logic is the TRI-Logic VG68 Slideway oil, which is formulated not only to resist microbial attack but also to actively reinforce the anti-microbial properties of the cutting fluid; so innovative is this technology that world patents are pending.  While in the lubrication system of the machine, TRI-Logic VG68 performs as a typical slideway lubricant, preventing stick-slip motion and protecting slideways from corrosion.   

However, when the product enters the cutting fluid emulsion, rather than promote bacterial and fungal growth, the highly effective anti-microbial additives contained in TRI-Logic VG68 counteract the problem by transferring from the slideway oil into the cutting fluid.  Once transferred into the fluid, the anti-microbial can start work on eliminating the destructive bacteria and fungi.

To fully realise the potential of TRI-Logic VG68 a range of specially optimised cutting fluids have been formulated.  TRI-Logic ML (maximum life general purpose cutting fluid); TRI-Logic EP (heavy duty cutting fluid for arduous operations) and TRI-Logic AL for aluminium and its alloys, all offer maximum microbial resistance for a wide range of materials and machining processes. 

Finally, TRI-Logic RTD is a tapping fluid that can be used for selective application and which builds on the market leading ROCOL RTD technology.  TRI-Logic RTD reduces the availability of nutrients for bacteria and fungi and is fully emulsifiable, so rather than causing contamination problems, it mixes into the cutting fluid.  Also, instead of being wasted, the high performance additives contained in TRI-Logic RTD then improve the performance of the cutting fluid, increasing tool life and reducing costs.
