ITW BioPreferred Metalworking Fluids

USDA BioPreferred® Program Certified Metalworking Fluids

With hundreds of "green" labels in the marketplace it is hard to know which designations are credible and which are just greenwashing. At ITW we are committed to developing sustainable, environmentally-preferable solutions and we want to prove it to you.

In this section you will find information on our newly designated BioPreferred metalworking fluids. You may recognize some of these products; we’ve been setting the industry standards in biobased lubrication since 1979 with our Accu-Lube product line, long before “green” meant more than a color. The formulas aren’t new-and-improved; these are the same, dependable products you’ve come to expect from ITW Accu-Lube, Rustlick, and SafeTap labels. What is new is the USDA BioPreferred certification.

For as long as these products have been on the market we’ve been toting their “natural-based ingredients” and “environmentally-friendly characteristics”. These new certifications prove what we’ve been saying all along…

When the job or customer calls for the use of metalworking fluids composed entirely or significantly of biobased ingredients, you will find one of the largest selections available under the ITW Accu-Lube, Rustlick, and SafeTap labels.

Our mission is to help our customers create cleaner, safer, greener facilities with our biobased lubricants that are second to none in performance, quality, and value.

What is the USDA BioPreferred® Program?

The purpose of the USDA BioPreferred Program is to promote the increased purchase and use of biobased products. The program is expected to promote economic development, creating new jobs and providing new markets for farm commodities. To the extent that the BioPreferred program achieves its purpose, the increased purchase of biobased products will also be expected to reduce petroleum consumption, increase the use of renewable resources, better manage the carbon cycle, and may contribute to reducing adverse environmental and health impacts.

For a biobased product to be considered "BioPreferred", two conditions must be met:

  1. The product category that incorporates the biobased product must have been identified by USDA for the Federal procurement preference; and,

  2. A product within an identified category must meet the minimum biobased content standard as established for the category

The USDA BioPreferred program has two major initiatives:

Product Labeling
USDA certifies and awards labels to qualifying products to increase consumer recognition of biobased products.

Federal Procurement Preference
USDA designates categories of biobased products that are afforded preference by Federal agencies when making purchasing decisions.
